Auckland to Singapore
And so the adventure begins. The big task of the day was to pack. A lot of people had been advising a "practice pack". Should have listened! Ask Colin and he will tell you I am the worst packer. I never know what to take and can stand for ages looking in drawers, putting things in my suitcase and taking them back out again. Today was no exception and to make matters worse my suitcase had shrunk in the wardrobe. Isn't that what we say about clothes? So after selecting my things to pack it was clearly evident that it wasn't going to fit. A mercy dash by Colin to Briscoes sorted that out but then began the task of evening out weight between both our cases and our carry on luggage. So much for buying stuff over there - we are already at our weight allowance. I guess Colin and the budget are happy about that.
So off to Park n Ride and low and behold there is a car park right beside the pick up area. This is a busy place and parks that close to the pick up point are scarce as hens teeth. Colin however, has this uncanny knack wherever he is, in being able to obtain a park right outside the particular shop he intends on going into. Tonight was no exception - I don't know why I was surprised. If this were me, I would be parked on the fence line at the end of the available parks and would need to hitch a ride with someone heading that way cos it would be too far to walk. So we don't want to bore you with too much mundane stuff, but it was nice to see the plane was not too full and we had three seats to ourselves.
Dinner was an unusual experience - Chinese Braised steak on rice and I thought let's get into the swing of things and ordered a Singapore Sling. Anyone watching me trying to drink through the stirrer believing it was the straw would be thinking I was already trolleyed. Part way through my meal I got this strange feeling on my tongue and a strong metallic taste. Conjuring up visions of some sort of reaction and seeing myself sitting there trying to swallow this Singapore Sling with a big fat tongue lolling out of my mouth I thought it best not to continue with the rest. Colin also got this feeling and taste but he thought it was nice! Apart from some turbulence when the captain suspended dinner service, we had a smooth flight. We both watched a movie and then tried to settle down for a sleep. Colin proceeded to look like a startled possum, no doubt due to the black coffee he had before boarding. I took a sleeping pill and gently went off to sleep. Colin was very restless and was still wide awake despite taking a sleeping tablet too and kept waking me with his fidgeting. So all in all only about 3-5 hours sleep and we landed in Singapore at around 6.20am.
