Bits and Pieces
I have been meaning to post some odd little bits of info for ages. One of the things that has struck us here, is every time you look up into the sky, all you see is the slipstreams of the airplanes. The airways are obviously so busy. At one time there may be as many as 6 slipstreams criss crossing over each other so it looks like they are colliding. You just don't see that in NZ.
Toilets is the next thing. You have to pay to pee in public toilets. Mostly the cost is half a Euro, i.e. 50 cents but at one place they were 1 Euro and 50. Work that out with the exchange rate and that is about $3! Often they are disgusting but mostly they are pretty good. The worst was the one that was most expensive.
We have also seen so many different types from ceramic holes in the ground, to very low ones, in Italy the public loos have no toilet seats (I am so over hovering), and in Germany was the ultimate experience. I kid you not, but this one had a self cleaning toilet seat. When you flushed the toilet, not only did it flush away your business, but a little mechanism comes out over the seat and must wipe it clean. To do this the whole toilet seat turns around, which looks very odd as it is an oval shape going around in a circle. I was so intrigued by this, I took a video, but I was in such a flap because there was a queue, I couldn't get the angle right and made a bit of a hash of the video.
The last thing is laundry. There is generally not enough time to visit laundromats, so you are restricted to hand washing and then trying to find a place for them to dry. Poor Colin has had to fight his way through all the smalls in the bathroom just to have a shower. Plus as you may only be staying the one night in some of the places, you tend to save it up for when you have two nights just to get the stuff dry. Then it is poor housekeeping that get to view your stuff. Tonight at about halfway through the tour, we have taken all our shirts and shorts/pants to a laundromat, here in Sorrento. Very busy place completely overtaken by the tourists. We managed to get a load washed for 5 Euro (including the wash powder) and dried, another 4 Euro. If you were to use the hotel facilities this would cost you 4 Euro for just one shirt. Definitely worth the two hours it took us to do this ourselves.
So some bits and pieces for you to have a laugh at.
