We have retraced some of our path today, as we leave Sorrento heading back towards Rome but instead making our way to Florence in beautiful Tuscany.
There have been a lot of sleeping people today, so I think things are catching up with us all and we were no exception falling asleep soon after leaving.
We stopped for half an hour at Casino for a bit of a break, a drink and toilet stop for those that needed it. No pay to pee pee this time and reasonably nice toilets. I forgot to mention in the bits and pieces blog, the reason the toilets are so disgusting as the custom here is not to flush your toilet paper, instead you are supplied with a bin to place this in. During the hotter weather these become particularly ripe! They have someone on the door eager to take your money, but they would do well to get off their butt and empty these bins and clean the loo's!
Any way it was a lovely shop selling lots of Limoncello ( a locally produced liqueur), chocolates, wines and of course the mandatory souvenirs.
We drove on to Orvieto where we boarded a funicular (like a cable car) and then a small bus to go up the hill to visit the black basalt and limestone cathedral in amongst a quaint little village.

The church contained more frescoes depicting scenes from heaven and hell. Once again very beautiful, although I was not so taken with this as I have by others.
We had just enough time to grab a bite to eat before making our way back down again in the very crowded bus and funicular. Being a pretty hot day this was not so nice as we were squashed into these vehicles like sardines along with all the smells of hot bodies!
A further journey north and we finally arrive in Florence. Today is one of those days you spend most of it in the coach. We have traveled 560 km's.
Tonight is a relaxed night, finding somewhere to have a bite to eat and look around. Little did we realize the walk into town would be so long. The weather is exceptionally hot and humid and just walking around is so tiring.
We had a "gasp" moment as we walked into the square and saw the Duomo on top of the cathedral. The whole thing is spectacular but we will add photos of this in tomorrow's blog as the light was not so good. We decided to take a taxi back to the hotel and that was entertainment in itself. The taxi driver had some sort of tic as he kept shrugging and lifting off the seat. We struggled to maintain our composure throughout the journey.
A day tomorrow looking around Florence and off to Pisa as well.
